WTF? –Stick It!

In a day and age where personal expression is found almost entirely  online, you’ll be surprised to hear that the latest trend in showing off individuality takes a more physical form – the laptop sticker.

From pop culture figures and #relatable catchphrases to Greek life affiliations and artsy as f*ck illustrations, these small, adhesive-backed images let students create montaged definitions of themselves. Known brands come together in a carefully collaged fashion to create an entirely new brand that can let onlookers and passersby know a little (or a lot) about who owns the laptop at a reasonable cost without a word being said.

Stickers know no boundaries. There is actually a sticker for everyone, most of which can be found on a neat website called RedBubble. A drawing of Drake’s famous dance moves, an ode to McDreamy, an pledge of allegiance to Gryfindoor, a milk-box missing ad for Nessy, holographic homages to home states – you get the point.

Time for my shameless plug: I love the sticker craze so much that I decided to contribute to it! I have my very own RedBubble storefront, where all of my uploaded designs are available for purchase. Check them out. Who knows? You might find one that suits your style… (but if you don’t there are literally thousands more to choose from, so don’t worry.)

WTF? – All Choked Up!

They’re back, and everyone’s wearing them. I. mean. everyone. You’re probably wearing one right now. Can you take a guess as to what I’m referring to? Chokers, of course – the latest and hottest item out of the ‘90s fashion revival.

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 10.18.15 PM

Whether you owned one of velvet ribbon variety, or the kind that stretched around your neck to look like at tattoo, the choker was the unavoidable item that every Spice Girls-loving, Backstreet Boys-swooning adolescent rocked. Though most of us in the 21st century still know how to embrace our crazy inner fan girl, chokers have grown up to take a more sophisticated, refined approach this time around. With the tribal trend is also back in fashion this fall, the simple black stretchy choker adds just the right amount of aztec flair without overstating an outfit. They can typically be purchased for $5 or less, but if you’re into DIY, a clip and some stretch-cord are all you need to make your own.

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 10.22.27 PM

See more here.

If the tribal choker simply isn’t for you, there are tons of other variations on accessory shelves. The single bead choker has been around for a while, but they’re more popular now than ever. Mostly found knotted on a piece of black leather cord, the marbles come in lots of sizes and colors – even with rhinestones! My personal favorite is a small, silver plated metal bead. It reflects colors from your clothes to automatically match any outfit, making it the perfect “everyday necklace.”

Find these chokers here

As per most simple trends like the choker, designer versions are available too. Jennifer Fisher, David Webb, and House of Lavande all released metal knot-clad neck bands that are just absolutely elegant. The same can’t be said for Dezso or Anndra Neen. Dezso’s take on the choker includes a gem literally embedded into a curved, stolen-from-the-jungle tooth, while Neen’s is intended to channel a cage match. These looks might be a bit extreme, but hey, when isn’t most designer fashion?

Hopefully the latest jewelry trend won’t leave you all choked up. Chic collars are a must for this year’s fashion, so they’re probably good items to invest in. So do you plan to rock a choker this season? Which style is your favorite? Be sure to leave a comment letting me know!

WTF?! – Joggers!

What, might you ask, are joggers? Well… let’s just say that they’re definitely not your shabby Saturday sweats.

Though there’s little better than cozying up in a big ol’ pair of sweatpants and settling in for a lazy night at home, stepping out feeling comfortably fabulous is a close runner up. Joggers, or what I refer to as “fashionably-acceptable sweats,” are this fall’s hottest runway-to-street item.

Screen Shot 2014-10-13 at 1.24.23 PM

But don’t be fooled by their street style approved status, joggers aren’t just for fashion bloggers and Beyonce-level celebrities. They’re a savvy weekend warrior style option for a fashion forward look that gives off an all around “cool girl” vibe. The right pair should be somewhat fitted – but not too tight – at the waist and ankle with room throughout the leg, so just about anything you can wear with your everyday jeans, you can wear with jogger pants.

Joggers – Rag & Bone, T-Shirt – Net-a-Porter, Sneakers – Ash

Joggers look just as awesome paired with high heels and a blazer as they do with a plain tee and slip-on sneakers. Knit or woven cotton ones lend themselves to a more casual look, while leather or leather-like options feel more street chic. In other words, they earn the day-to-night item title with ease.

Joggers – River Island, Blazer – H&M, Shoes – New Look

They’re plenty stylish on their own, but get even better once details like decorative zippers, on-trend colors or pretty prints come into play. These are the kinds of eye catching design elements that give jogger pants added personality.

Just remember one thing- when you’re lounging in front of the t.v. with a pint of ice cream, you might call them sweatpants. But when you’re stepping out in style, they’re joggers.

Do you plan to purchase a pair of joggers this fall? What’s your favorite way to style them? Be sure to leave a comment letting me know!

Three Baseball Game Outfit Ideas!

One of my long-time favorite summer activities? Going to baseball games.

Although I adore the Yankees (you’ll see what I mean soon enough), I’ll never turn down the opportunity to make my way over to a ballpark – regardless of who’s playing. The combination of yummy food, excellent company, and a beautiful view guarantees a night full of fun.

Going to a game can get pricey, though. If you’re just there to hang out with friends, go for the cheapest tickets – a poor view usually won’t get in the way of a good time. Ballpark food, on the other hand, comes with a big price tag that’s tough to avoid. Be sure to eat dinner prior to the game and go for the kid-sized options. You’ll save cash and calories! Also, the farther you park from the field, the cheaper it will be. If you’re willing to walk, park farther! You’ll get the exercise to justify the extra ice cream cone and a great scenic walking tour of the city you’re in.

Some of this money you’ll be saving can go towards fabulous ball game fashion! A few things to remember: white shorts are a mustard stain waiting to happen, short skirts should be avoided, and the last thing you want to do is wear the opposing teams colors.

Dressing for a baseball game can be a tricky task, but if you do it right, you’ll look effortlessly chic. Without further ado, I’ve pulled together some outfit ideas for your next ball park excursion:

(Disclaimer: I’ve used the Yankees colors  for all of the outfits, but you could easily recreate them with your own team’s colors)

WTF? – Overalls!

As the summer days start getting longer and hotter, comfortable clothes are an absolute necessity. But who would have known that one of the most comfortable articles of clothing to wear – a simple pair of denim overalls – is back in a big way?!

The denim one piece has gone through a major transformation this season, from a something made for the farm, into an edgy outfit for any time of day. Overalls were all over the runway at New York Fashion Week, and, of course, celebrities on the street are wearing them too. Whether it’s classic blue denim, a pair of “shorteralls”, or even black to dress up the look, overalls are being spotted everywhere – looking totally fabulous, nonetheless.

Image

Big-name designers showed several different versions of these double-strapped childhood classics on their runways. DKNY’s were done in traditional denim, Rag & Bone’s in minimalist black and white and Alexander Wang’s in heavily-logoed leather.

Image

How about our trendy celebs? Ashley Tisdale was spotting looking both laid-back and adorable in a pair of gray overalls at LAX, while Olivia Palermo proved that overalls aren’t exclusively for the bohemian in her edgy, black, piece. Selena Gomez opted for a slightly sexier look by styling her denim number with a lacy bandeau and metallic flats. Meanwhile, Rachel Bilson showed off her vacation style in a shorts rendition.

Image

There are endless modern, mega-cool ways to nail the overall trend: the adorable shorteralls, dainty delicate straps, or a crisp white update to the standard denim blue.

Fabulous Summer Nail Art?!

What if I told you rocking one of summer’s hottest accessories was as easy as a trip to the salon or an update to your polish collection? Fabulous, warm-weather friendly manicures are perfect finishing touches to any sunny, summer look!

If you’re like me, basic, monotone fingernails are avoided at all costs – especially this time of year. Rather, mixing up polish colors, designs, and patterns is a total must! Any everyday mani can be updated with some funky nail art.Screen Shot 2014-06-22 at 7.27.24 PM

Nail art has come a long way since the days when you would try to paint a dainty flower on your nails without anything except a wobbly hand and a toothpick. With the help of Youtube tutorials and usually a trip or two to the nail salon, I expect everyone to master their nail art game this season. Where to start? – Look no further. I’ve collected a whole bunch of colorful nail art designs that absolutely scream “summer”!

Nothing says summer like fruity fingers!

Polka dots are an understated classic.

WTF? – The CFDA Awards Red Carpet!

While the Met Gala is often likened to the Oscars of fashion, the CFDA awards (or Council of Fashion Designers of America for those of you who aren’t familiar), are much like the Golden Globes. More casual, more intimate and let’s face it, a lot more fabulous.

The 2014 CFDA Awards at Lincoln Center in NYC on June 2 brought out the biggest names in fashion, such as honoree Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o, Blake Lively, and Michael Kors, just to name a few! This year’s show was hosted by director and screenwriter John Waters and took place at the beautiful Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.

Let’s start with Blake Lively who never misses a beat on the fashion scene and is my personal reigning red carpet queen (see her Met Gala gown here). Accompanied by beloved designer Michael Kors, the pair stole the spotlight as Blake glimmered in her Kors gold mini. Pairing her gorgeous little get-up with a gold headband, hoop earrings and bangles, the stunning actress looked positively radiant.

Image

If there is one celebrity that we can count on to always look amazing on the red carpet in 2014, it’s Lupita Nyong’o, and on the CFDA carpet she, or course, dazzled once again. Serving as a presenter, the Kenyan actress (recently casted to Star Wars: Episode VII) wore a colorful patterned jumpsuit with a scoop neck — and she rocked it effortlessly.

Image

However, it was Rihanna who was honored with the coveted Fashion Icon award and stole most of the attention on the carpet last night. Wearing a totally sheer Adam Selman sequined dress, RiRi left little to the imagination. The sexy singer certainly proved that she isn’t afraid of showing a little skin! She topped off her look with a matching headscarf and gloves, all of which were embellished with over 216,000 Swarovski crystals.

The CDFA carpet was full of A-listers showing off some great fashion, but who do you think takes home the coveted title of best dressed? What do you think about Rihanna’s red carpet risk? Feel free to leave a comment below!

Color Crush: Pretty in Pink!

When it comes to pale pink, people either love it or hate it.

Those who champion the extra-girly shade love how pretty and fresh it is. Those who hate it usually take offense to the overt “delicateness” or “girliness” of the hue. However, this spring no one’s got a reason to complain because pale pink’s been taking over the shop shelves and feels way more chic than dainty.

A light almost icy shade of pink is the pale rose which has been a hit on the runway. From coats to skirts, to shoes, to bags, all products are available in this fabulous blush pink color. While orchid is the talk of the town this season, its close cousin rose pale pink is also rocking the fashion realm. You probably have subjected blush pink to wedding gowns, but go hunt at the deep end of your closet – you are sure to have a belt or a cute top that matches this shade. Ideal to wear in nearly any occasion imaginable, this shade has a special bond with our childhood Barbie dolls, too.
Pink

We already know that pastel pink outerwearswept the runways during the Fall 2013′s season—most notably Carven’s gotta have it overcoat—and now it’s fully trickled down to the warm-weather wardrobes. But hey, New York is stuck in the 50’s on the thermometer, so these cute coats may still have the opportunity to make an appearance before summer.

Screen Shot 2014-04-24 at 7.13.21 PM

Of course celebs are rocking the beautiful hue too –  First, we saw January Jones strut the Emmy’s carpet in her custom Givenchy gown. Then the metallic finish on Dakota Fanning’s clutch offers just enough contrast against her billowy gown, proving that you can absolutely pair pink with more pink! And we always count on Ariana to make an already super-girly trend even flirtier with a swingy pink mini and crop top! Make this look work for the lingering chilly weather by popping a chunky knit sweater on top.

Screen Shot 2014-04-24 at 7.24.57 PM

Accessories as we know, follow trend. Ballet pink bags by Guess and coach full fill classic shapes in leather or Furla’s funky poly plastic bag is a playful nod to the trend. Jewelry lines such as ABS, Kate Spade, Betsy Johnson and Haskell. Shoes, eyewear and even nail polish round the ballet pink trend to a complete fresh spring look.

Screen Shot 2014-04-24 at 8.09.55 PM

What can we learn from this inspiration? Think pink! And what to pair it with? Black adds edge, white makes it classic, and grey keeps it casual! I was also thinking plum and pink would be a good pairing or pale pink and deep navy. Way fabulous! Do what you will but I think pale pink should be on your radar. It will let you be a fashion guru in the most subtle, sweetest way possible!

How do you feel about pale pink? Plan to try it out this season? Let me know how in the comments!

Trend Report: Lip Service

Got a big mouth? Bite your tongue, but give them the royal kiss-off with the sassy lip print strutting right off the runway.

One of the first things to get the fashion world swooning over lip prints was a Spring ’14 Saint Laurent asymmetric-sleeve top with bright red sequin lips. But it’s not just the catwalk that’s crazy in love with lips, my favorite Gary Pepper Girl blogger Nicole Warne was spotted at Paris Fashion Week wearing ankle boots with a ruby-red lip pattern while Cara Delevingne upgraded her jersey sweats with a repeat pout print.

Image

Also on the Yves Saint Laurent walk, a cute little red lip print wrap dress was sent down the runway, and ever since everyone’s been puckering up for the instant hit. Here’s the look that speaks for and sparked this fabulously fun trend:

Image

So cool, right? Smooches are leaving their mark everywhere from Peter Jensen, where frocks and tops were covered with photo-realistic lips, to Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who crafted a pair of sunglasses with gilded gobs for lenses. The gap-toothed pink and purple pouts that appeared on a series of looks at Giles Deacon were rumored to be an ode to stylist Katie Grand’s grin. Meanwhile, Saint Laurent‘s Hedi Slimane doused an 80s-tinged ruffle top and short black wrap dress with an allover rouge lip print. Tucker’s Gaby Basora employed the motif, too; the New York-based designer collaborated with Solange Azagury-Partridge—best known for her “Hot Lips” baubles—on rosebud blouses and dresses strewn with fuchsia kissers.

Image

Of all the fun prints out in stores right now, this is the one that I have yet to try but is definitely on my hit-list. There is something about he red lip pattern that reminds me of Betty Boop – cartoonish, yet sexy and iconic. I know that Valentine’s Day is long gone, but in my opinion it’s never too late to seal it with a kiss.
